Sunrise Yoga Day 19

Home stretch time!  Two classes to go in the sunrise adventure!

I snoozed majorly this morning.  My cat started waking me up at 4 AM and kept my snoozing choppy and uneven.  I got to class on time though!

I skipped the first round of seated twists to stay longer in baddha konasana.  I always feel rebellious or something whenever I change the sequence from what the teacher is teaching.  It makes me wonder what students think when I'm teaching and they feel like they want to stay longer in a pose, probably the same thing.  On one hand I want people to listen to their inner teacher, but also, I do plan the class sequences in a particular order for a particular purpose.  So that's a "connundrum" - the boyfriend's favorite word -  what to do?  In general, I prefer not to be a drill sargeant, but at the same time, new students can be confused or distracted by a more seasoned practitioner doing something different from everyone else.  The result is that I usually just let people do whatever they want, and recognize that trying to control the situation is probably missing the point.  Buuuuuuuuuuut... then what is my role as the teacher?  To provide a space and some direction?  Or is there a necessary "power differential" that is lacking when people do their own thing?  To some extent, you have to be open to what someone is teaching you to actually learn from them, right?  Otherwise why go to a public class?

My mind could spin on this for hours!

Instead..

I'll focus on this.
